After having a great night with Benny our cyclist friend we headed off early. we had to cross the malawian border that day. it was raining and wet. we rose up high into the highlands and funnily enough our surrounding looked like canada! through of our old travelling partner Tom - riding a suzuki v-strom - and wondered where in the world he was. beautiful fast roads, again, with excellent tarmac and lovely curves - tanzania was a dream to travel through. we then stopped for lunch in a one horse town and chatted to a Masai warrior there. he told us of how his family moved a thousand cattle from arusha to southern tanzania in 6 months! what an ordeal, can you imagine the logistics of that? and they walked the entire way. it must be around 3000km through hilly and rugged terrain. incredible story. we crossed the border aorund 12:00, which turned out to be a joyous 20 min ordeal. an absolute record border cossing. as soon as we entered you could taste the poverty. these people are really poor. the roads immediatley disintergrated and everything became much much smaller. another thing i noticed was the smiling going down. so many smiles! i stopped to take some photos of some kids and was so happy to see good some good 'ol positive energy. gone was the begging from tanznia. these guys are a hundred times poorer yet have so much more self respect. we bumbled on down to Chitimba on lake malawi. what a fantastic place! idyllic and just plain beautiful.
