Rijeka - Beograde - Nis (1.484 km)

...being escorted out of belgrade by our bodacious belgradian biker buddies...

... belgrade centre - were smiling so that we look like nice tourists who like serbia. yes we love serbia. serbs dont like people that dont like serbia ...

...arriving in serbia...

...incredible sight - bombed out belgrade...

...our belgradian biker homies Sasa e Mladja...

Our vibe is this: mission hard in the beginning to get out of the cold. its around 0-5 degrees out there. bitterly cold. so i the last 4 days we've covered around 1400km's. quite a lot. so to be honest we haven't really seen so much. we've just been riding you know. Rijeka is really beautiful. very like Trieste. and feels still like Italy. the next day we cruised through Croatia to Serbia. Belgrade was an eye opener yesterday. we entered the city... and there were these massive buildings just blown to bits. huge chunks taken out of them. it was a scary and an incredible thing to see.

we then rounded the corner. took some photos in the centre and stopped next to some bikers. when they saw us they just about blew their paplushkas! they were so happy to see us. it really is incredible, there is a real sense of family with bikers. all over the world you can see a biker on the road and salute him as a brother. these guys even escorted us out of the city with their hazard lights on! its a pity. we should have stayed there one or two nights in belgrade with them. my heart said that we should stay, but my mind was like, push on. and we did. next time ill listen to my heart a little more. when will i ever go to belgrade again...

so last night we arrived in Nis. found a stylish little cafe bar in the centre and started talking politics with serbians. something that one should never do. contrary to popular belief serbians are such nice friendly hospitable people. last night these guys found us a hotel, gave us free beers, smokes and were so happy to have us there. we slept last night in an old 'from russia with love' hotel. that resembled a bomb shelter more than anything else. then this morning i had a run in with some dodgy geezers. these guys (5 of em) chubby fingered, gold ringed, gold gummed geezers were talking to me in some language. trying to organize something with me. i knew things were going to far when the geezer was trying to push 100 euros bills into my hands and wispering to me in russian. i was like.... um... gotta go............ thanks but im already hooked up with my casa nostra homies back in italy wouldnt be too chuffed (jokes :)

anyhow. last but not least. i wonder what all these people think of me and matteo dressed to the hilt in ducati gear riding these beautiful sponsor clad machines through their tired and tested country. i suppose the hope that that is what the future holds for their country: to become like italy. lord help them!
