Per arrivare a Maralal bisogna scalare una lunga strada rocciosa che porta in cima ad un altipiano a circa 2.500 mt di altitudine. Dopo 2 settimane di caldo soffocante e’ stato un sollievo poter respirare un po’ di aria fresca e riposarsi all’ombra di qualche grande albero. Mano a mano che si sale lungo la montagna si assiste ad una vera esplosione di colori. Dal verde intenso degli alberi e dei prati al rosso scuro del terreno. Tutta questa natura cosi’ rigogliosa illuminata dalla luce del sole che qui e’ cosi’ brillante creano un bellissimo effetto fotografico. A Maralal ci siamo sistemati al Yare Campsite (N 01 03,527’ E 36 42,649’) 4 km fuori citta’.

ah we were so happy to be out of the hard stuff. little did we know that the hard stuff was about to hit us again. crazy washed out roads that went on forever! some points were more technical than lake turkana even. started the day off to a wonderful slow cruise on the back roads to maralar (we were avoiding the conflict in the areas so we took the tiny roads in the middle of nowhere). cam across some samburu warriors in the morning. all dressed up in their traditional tribal gear. had a lovely chat to them about the weather and how long it takes for them to dress in the morning. it was lovely being out there in the back roads. just lots of cows, wonderful hills, deep red sand and animals. we then climbed high up into the kenyan mountains. 2500m up to a lovely camp and some nice food as well... oh joy oh raptour.
